- Miniature biography:
- I was born in Norwich and grew up in Sandgate near Folkestone, where I went to Sandgate Primary School and the Harvey Grammar School.
- I worked briefly at South Kent College, then started a degree in medical sciences and neuroscience in 1993 at the University of Cambridge, where I lived at St John's College. After this, I did a PhD within the Behavioural and Cognitive Neuroscience Group in the Department of Experimental Psychology. I also studied at the Clinical School for some years and qualified as a doctor in June 2001.
- I worked as a PRHO at Addenbrooke's [wikipedia] (general medicine, infectious diseases, respiratory medicine, stroke) and the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital [wikipedia] (general, colorectal, trauma, and orthopaedic surgery).
- In 2002 I became Lecturer in Neuroscience in the MRC Cambridge Behavioural and Clinical Neuroscience Centre and Department of Experimental Psychology, University of Cambridge; these are part of the wider Cambridge Neuroscience project. Research I conducted then led to an MD.
- In 2005 I started a medical SHO rotation at Addenbrooke's and Papworth [wikipedia] hospitals (hepatology/gastroenterology [including liver transplant assessment and preoperative care], general and acute medicine, geriatrics, respiratory medicine, cardiology), leading to MRCP (with the Royal College of Physicians of London) in 2007.
- In August 2007 I started a rotation in psychiatry in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust (CPFT) at Fulbourn Hospital [wikipedia], the adjacent Ida Darwin Hospital, Addenbrooke's, and Hinchingbrooke Hospital, Huntingdon, leading to MRCPsych (membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists) in 2010.
- In August 2010 I became a registrar, then a Wellcome Trust fellow and researcher at the Behavioural and Clinical Neuroscience Institute, Department of Psychiatry, University of Cambridge.
-
In 2016 I became University Lecturer in Clinical Informatics
(associate professor from 2021) at the
Department of Psychiatry, University of Cambridge,
and an honorary consultant liaison psychiatrist at
CPFT and
Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CUH).
